Biography

Thomas Helmore (1811 - 1890) was born in Kid­der­min­ster, Wor­ces­ter­shire, Eng­land and died at Westminster in London, England. Helmore was a grad­u­at­e of Mag­da­len Coll­ege, Ox­ford. He was or­dained as a priest in the Ang­li­can church and be­came vice-prin­ci­pal and pre­cen­tor at St. Mark’s Coll­ege, Chel­sea, London, where he served 35 years. In 1846 he was ap­point­ed mas­ter of the chor­is­ters of the Chap­el Roy­al. He was considered central to the revival of Plain Chant in the Church of England.
