John Hampden Gurney (1802 - 1862) was an Anglican clergyman and hymnist the son of Sir John Gurney, Baron of the Exchequer in Serjeant's Inn, Fleet Street, London, England. He was educated in Chobham, Surrey and at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated 1824 and became M.A. in 1827. He was an active supporter of the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge and other religious societies. He died in London.
