John Darwall (1731 - 1789) was an English clergyman, composer and poet. He was born in Haughton, Staffordshire and was educated at the Manchester Grammar School and then, at 14, Brasenose College, Oxford.

He graduated in 1756 and was appointed as curate of St. Matthew's Parish in Walsall, where he spent the rest of his life, later becoming vicar. Married twice, his second wife of 1776, Mary Whateley was also a poet and together they ran a printing press. John wrote songs for his congregation.
