Biography
Frederick Oakeley (1802 - 1880) was born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire and educated at Christ Church, Oxford. He died in Islington, London. He was ordained in 1828 and in 1845 converted from Church of England to Catholicism becoming a canon at Westminster Cathedral in 1852. He is now mainly remembered for his translation of Adeste Fideles (Oh Come All Ye Faithful) into English.
